Peklo

 

In Peklo there were two mills. In the mill in Olešenka, which Jurkovič changed in the holiday restaurant or so called cozy nook, as they used to say in that time, refreshment had been served even before. Nothing special, but water or beer and bread-and-butter and cakes of cheese. All of this suited nicely after a five-kilometer walk from Nové Město or Náchod. 

 

In 1909, i.e. together with the chateau, Peklo was rebuilt in compliance with the project of the architect Dušan Jurkovič. The porch next to the mill, which could provide asylum for many tourists, was demolished. There are still its basements in this place. The mill and the saw-mill were transformed in a restaurant. Not far away a new saw-mill with a turbine was built, which was driven by water conducted to this place by the pipeline from Olešenka.  

 

 

The National Theater actor Eduard Vojan used to spend his holidays in Peklo. Many celebrities arrived both to Rezek and to Peklo, to hotels or to privates: chancellor Dr. Šámal, National Theater stage-manager Dr. Hillar, father and son Václav Vydra, painter Malý, Guth-Jarkovský and others. Alois Jirásek wrote a nice story about Peklo.
